Our management staff carry out risk assessments at every stage of the work, consulting with staff to plan the work and minimise or eliminate risk to health and safety. We use the CITB Construction Site Safety Auditing System to ensure all aspects of safety are covered - every time. Method statements are prepared which consider all aspects of safety and have the agreement of the operatives due to the consultation process.
Sub-contractors are vetted through our quality system and our health & safety questionnaire (a standard questionnaire approved by the HVCA). When orders are issued, the contractors agree to abide by our Health & Safety policy, the Safety Plan and any safety instructions issued on site. They must provide evidence of current insurance and a Method Statement before commencement. Trades usually sub-contracted are Scaffolding and Asbestos Removal.
We hold weekly Progress Meetings and quarterly Quality Meetings, which encompass Staff Consultation Meetings. By these regular meetings, we control the progress and process of the works and confront issues as they arise. Planning the future and controlling the present means we are rarely in the position of 'crisis management'.
Our commitment to planning for safety is reflected in our safety statistics - no major accidents or incidents, no 3-day work related accidents or incidents (no reports under the RIDDOR Regulations), no Health & Safety Executive enforcement actions - in the entire life of our company. Even our offices recently passed the scrutiny of the Local Authority Safety Inspector. Clean bill of health all round - and this is not by chance - this is through the commitment of Directors, Management and Staff.
All operational members of staff and all sub-contractors are issued with a copy of our Site Induction Handbook. In house training covers our Health & Safety Policy, Equal Opportunity Policy, Environmental Policy, Code of Conduct and Quality Assurance Manual, as well as product and trade training.
